Tool Wear Characteristics and Strengthening Method of the Disc Cutter for Nomex Honeycomb Composites Machining with Ultrasonic Assistance

Nomex honeycomb composites are used extensively in aerospace, automotive, and other industries due to their superior material properties. However, the tool wear during machining can compromise processing accuracy stability of whole process, thus studies on strengthening method urgently needed. This study presents a radial difference calculation (RDC) evaluate disc cutter quantitatively both conventional cutting ultrasonic assisted cutting. The morphology process its characteristics were analyzed. Two different heat treatments (salt bath quenching vacuum quenching) carried out strengthen performance. research results demonstrated that vibration could significantly reduce cutter, by up 36%, after same time. Salt Particularly, treatment, cutter’s metallographic grains refined, be reduced 64%, compared as-received cutter. findings this instructive obtain further understanding mechanism improve methods composites.
